Week 6: Creating Success in Your Daily Routine

Day Thirty-Nine (2/14/18): People of Uncommon Wisdom
Recommended Reading: John 6:35-46

As Christians, there should be two main sources of wisdom in our life: our mentors and the Word of God. People of uncommon wisdom read the Word of God consistently every day. It’s one of the best ways for us to learn about God’s character and how we can best live our lives to glorify him.

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Joshua 1:8 (NLT)

This verse makes it clear that in order to succeed, the Bible must become imbedded in our hearts and minds. It’s not enough to hear Bible verses at church each Sunday. We must meditate on them. The Lord desires that his word would become the foundation on which we live our lives.

The Word of God is living and breathing. This means that it’s constantly relevant and applicable to us. It means that there is always something to learn! God gave it as a gift to us to learn, grow, and understand him from. If you’re not used to reading the Bible on your own, it can be intimidating. It’s not always easy to know where to start. The thing is this: there really is no wrong place to start! Maybe there’s a Bible story that has interested you in the past, but you’ve never actually read it. Maybe you’ve looked through all the books in the Bible and a certain one sparked your curiosity. Maybe you haven’t read about Jesus’ ministry in the New Testament. You can just spend some time flipping around and stop when something catches your attention. Allow the Lord to lead you in your study of his Word.

John 1:14 says that the Word became flesh to dwell among us, which is referring to Jesus. In our recommended reading today, Jesus tells the disciples that he is the bread of life. We need Jesus to live! This includes reading the Bible, since he himself is the Word of God.

Studying the Bible is exciting, informative, and new each day. You can read a story fifty times, and discover something new on the fifty first time. Once you form the habit of reading The Word every day, it will soon become nearly impossible to live without it.

Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you when you read the Word. Open your heart up and listen to what God is trying to say to you. Some of our greatest revelation and pieces of wisdom will come directly from the Bible from God! By habitually pursuing God through studying his Word, you will find yourself increasing in wisdom!

“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2-2:3 (NIV)
